This isn't some store-bought eggnog; rather, it's an ice cream shop chain that serves a superior version of this drink.
While some people believe that two spots in Central Austin may serve eggnog (going to check it out soon), and I know that nine other bars in Austin, Texas serve it as well during the Christmas season. And even though I haven't had Pete's eggnog in years, I had heard SO much chatter about Amy's Eggnog that I had to give it a try. And Wow! That is good Eggnog. According to the manager, they use a medium saucepan, over high heat, combine the milk, heavy cream and nutmeg and bring just to a boil, stirring occasionally. After they remove from the heat, they gradually temper the hot mixture into the egg and sugar mixture. Then after return everything to the pot and cook until the mixture reaches 160 degrees F, they stir in the bourbon, pour into a medium mixing bowl, and set in the refrigerator to chill.
