Between Houston and Austin, there's a quick stop that we recommend in LaGrange, Texas. If you're hungry on the drive between both cities, this spot will make you very happy to make a pitstop - Back Porch BBQ.
Ronald and I stopped here for the first time last weekend before heading to Round Top. We had the chips and queso appetizer followed by a brisket (sliced) sandwich and 1/4 lb sausage. The waitress recommended their famous baked potato casserole side and coleslaw.
We all were impressed. The service was friendly and fast. The brisket, chicken, and baby back ribs were very good and very tender (like fall of the bone tender). The various types of BBQ sauce available were all very tasty.
The pulled pork was moist and the sausages had a hint of spiciness. The brisket was moist and tender. Their portions are huge and the leftovers are calling my name from the fridge. I would be remiss if I did not mention their sides. My fried okra was god as were the beans. I did sample their cheesy potatoes and yea I could go back for those as well.
It's located at Hyw 71 and 77 in La Grange. Interesting building, too. Quick service. Lots of food. Enjoy the hamburger or perhaps a hamburger. Buy a T Shirt. Do what Texans do.
