You're not a southerner if you don't appreciate pecan pie. Now, to be honest, I make my own pecan pies for my family and friends. Here's the thing: Fantastic pecan pie filling is like a custard without the milk. The eggs make it set up. Never use a store-bought crust in an aluminum pan. I can pick up on these tiny details.
Well, after a fantastic meal at Péché, we ended the night with their home made warm pecan pie with a scoop of the vanilla bean ice cream. That was something special and perhaps the best pecan pie we have had; Perfectly gooey, perfectly cooked, nothing to criticize here unless you love a humongous crust, you won't get that!
Péché's Pecan Pie is an excellent pie. They make their own crust and clearly pour the filling into prepped, handmade crust. Due to the success of this pie, I can only imagine how many are made per day. The pie filling cooks up larger than you'd expect and you can tell that the filling began to drip out of the crust and smoke the bottom of the pie tin. I love it. They likely place a cookie sheet on the bottom rack to catch the spill near the end of the time for baking. I also detected two teaspoons of bourbon. Maybe more. Although most folks can't taste the bourbon, it definitely added some additional depth of flavor.
This is not the kind of place that we usually frequent but it was very clear that isn't the case for most of Austin as this place was absolutely packed on a Friday night. So what brought us here?
I love Péché, it's one of my favorite places to go for celebratory dinners! Definitely try an absinthe cocktail, it's a fun experience and the servers are very knowledgeable about it which was helpful for me :) The other cocktails are great too, and the food is amazing! They always have a great vegetarian option on the menu too. I would definitely visit again and again and again! Beautiful place and bar! So many different types of liquors on the wall. Great decor. Can't stay away!
