I'm not one for French food. In fact, some people will admit that I had to be dragged to a handful of spots. I find them uncomfortable. Most French restaurants have an 'air' about them that screams - I'm too good for you and you're lucky to be eating here. Well, my best friend, Howard Gautreau invited me to a French restaurant in Houston, Texas that blew my mind - Maison Pucha Bistro. I'm going to admit to you, I thought to myself 'Oh boy, here we go - froo froo galore.'
But, in no time, my attitude began to change.
Howard brought me here for Houston Restaurant Week for lunch. The restaurant is really attractive! We were quickly seated and received service. The shrimp ceviche was delicious! The shrimps are huge and the sauce was sweet and tangy and with a little bit of spice. The terrine was good as well and was beautifully presented. For the main course, we got the duck confit and the steak. The steak was cooked perfectly and was flavorful.
You can see through the their huge glassed-in kitchen and what really amazed me was how organized and clean it was, despite all the plating going on for dinner service. We all ordered off their Houston Restaurant Week's dinner menu. I will say they have a lovely selection.
This French themed restaurant is perfect for a special occasion and has indoor/ outdoor seating options. Be prepared to valet since the place is located in a neighborhood with limited parking. To avoid valet all together, we just took an Uber. The service was good and very knowledgeable of the menu choices. Their recommendations all received high praises.
My first experience here was so great that I demanded that we return when I'm back in Houston. We will definitely be back to try some of the other dishes in the future. Between the hospitable staff and the wonderful food, I can't think of a more perfect brunch place.
