If you're driving from Austin to Houston and find yourself making a pit stop in Brenham, Texas, there's a spot we highly recommend - The Funky Art Cafe.
My family and I were were driving to Houston and wanted something local and also healthy since we planned to get ice cream at the local creamery afterwards and I stumbled upon Funky Art Cafe. It fit exactly what I was looking for since it had such a strong menu variety. It was clearly THE spot to be in town on a Saturday afternoon and we had to wait about 20 minutes for a table (bonus: they are attached to a cute little shop that we browsed in while we waited). I had the Sound of Music II salad, which I had read rave reviews about online.
Very eclectic decor and filled with locals, this restaurant abuts a kitchen furnishings store that sells art and interesting kitchen items not found generally. If you're driving between Houston and Austin, keep in mind that they close at 2pm so plan your visit carefully. We got there about 1:30 and the place was still packed. Every customer was greeted as family and I think most of them probably were family! Great place, great food, great location and I can't say too much about Funky.
As the name suggests it's full of funky art. The food was yummy and healthy. Just what I was looking for. The cafe is in an old building and joins what would be the store behind it. You can enter through either store. One is the cafe & one has a coffee shop. Between the two there are cute things you can buy. You can sit at a table in either location and order from a common menu. The food, the service, and the ambience were perfect for our needs. I would definitely recommend this to anyone particularly if they needed vegan, vegetarian, or gluten-free options. Very unique dishes and everything we had was tasty.
Wonderful food with a great campy atmosphere. Waiter was attentive and took our order right away. Will definitely be back !!!
