On Bellaire Blvd., in Chinatown, the best dumplings in all of Houston are only two blocks from the Beltway.
The name – Gold Dumpling House.
I kept hearing about this place all the time. I’m a HUUUUGE dumpling fan. When I finally walked into the front door and started eating, I didn't realize that the portions would be so large because of how inexpensive the meal is. Believe it or not, noodles and dumplings are around $6 each. That’s amazing. They give you enough noodles to feed two people and the dumplings are enormous. The Dan Dan noodles were phenomenal.
To be honest, the service wasn’t amazing but it’s not what I’m there for. When you’re there, you’re all about eating cheap, fast and good food. When I returned to the restaurant about two weeks later, It gets crowded at dinner time (after 6:30 pm) on Fridays and on the weekends, so it’s best pay a visit at about 5 pm or so. If you have a group (or more than 4 people), I recommend that you call in advance and they will reserve a table for you.
After my third or fourth visit, I started bringing my co-workers and gal pals. So we started ordering a plate of steamed dumplings (pork & shrimp). It comes with ten and they were amazing! We also ordered one plate of boiled dumplings (pork & leek). Those were delicious and come with 18. We got the dan dan noodles again too which were very tasty, but nothing like the ones I ate in Beijing during my time living there.
When the dinner was all over, the entire check was $22. Everything was tasty and the service was as fast as you can imagine when you beat the dinner rush. Without a doubt, I will definitely be going back again and again.
