If you live in Houston and have never heard of Perry’s, you probably live in a cave. But, if you have heard of Perry’s and never paid them a visit for dinner, you are truly missing out. I've been to most of the steak houses in Houston, but this was my first visit to Perry's. I thought they had a great layout, both the bottom and top floors looked like elegant dining spots. The place is surprisingly big with the two floors and it was very packed when I went, before the COVID problems surfaced.
But if you’re interested in an AMAZING carry-out dinner, take my advice. The pork chop for the Friday lunch special (&14.95) is huge (but still half the size of the dinner portion) and has a brown-sugary crust. The meat itself is sort-of smokey and the lime adds a bit of tang. It is served only with some apple sauce and a scoop of mashed potatoes, so if you're not on an all meat diet, you may add the Brussels sprouts ($3.95) or asparagus for an additional charge. Even though it’s all about carry-out now, the service was excellent, and the vibe is typical for the River Oaks area in Houston, but we went to the Sugar Land location to pick up an order to go during this crazy pandemic.
But when it comes to the ultimate meal, order the seven finger pork chop. It’s a very large portion that is carved into 3 parts – the eyelash, loin, and ribs. The eyelash is the juiciest top portion found above what is traditional called the eye of the chop. There is a large loin served with applesauce. The last portion is the meaty, smoky, tender ribs. Although it is pricey at $38 with no accompanying sides, it's totally worth it. There are several higher priced menu options. We also had some very buttery au gratin potatoes and creamed spinach to accompany the pork. There was plenty of food to make a second meal. Since we mentioned it was an anniversary, we received rose petals on our white tablecloth and a lovely dessert sampler to share.
We ordered our dinner to go and made it our first date night out without really going out. First let me say that restaurant itself is beautiful. The food was beyond delicious! The calamari was by far the best calamari we've ever had. The service was a little slow while waiting for our order to-go, but they offered us refills etc while we waited. We definitely will be ordering a great meal from Perry’s again. We will be eating here again and again!
