In case you don’t know, a soufflé is a baked egg-based dish which originated in early eighteenth-century France. It is made with egg yolks and beaten egg whites combined with various other ingredients and served as a savory main dish or sweetened as a dessert. And when it comes to an amazing dessert that makes my day, a chocolate souffle hits the spot. I love it for the dark and intense in flavor, yet with a light and custardy texture. A chocolate soufflé, for me, is an eternal showstopper.
And in Austin, the best chocolate souffle I have ever tasted is located at a spot named Sala and Betty.
First of all, the drive-thru is so ideal right now! They offer a full menu that offers healthy, hearty options and some indulgent numbers because life is all about balance! Also, beer and wine to-go! How about that!
They have a fantastic happy hour special (3-6pm) where you can get half off their select sandwiches. HIGHLY recommend getting the Mister T (slow roasted wagyu sirloin, fries, avocado aioli, mixed greens, bleu cheese sauce). It is such a filling portion and happy hour brings it down to only $5!! I get this pretty much every time but the Sala (lemon roasted chicken) and the Betty (Slow roasted pork) sandwiches are great choices as well. You can ask to have the fries inside or to the side of your sandwich. Delicious either way. I'm not even a sandwich person so for me to really enjoy their sandwiches, that's saying a lot.
But – let me get back to when I ordered the Chocolate souffle. It comes with garnished with candied oranges and it literally melted in my mouth. It was so amazing that I ordered two more. It’s $8 and worth twice that to me.
At this time, you can order online for pick up, private parties and catering. A great spot for anyone who is looking for an amazing meal in Austin.
