Get Ready for Pumpkin Pie - Fresa’s in Austin

With the holidays on their way, I wanted to contribute an article about pumpkin pies.  Now, not only do I LOVE pumpkin pie, but I also wanted to find the best one in Austin while also finding a spot that allows you to pre-order them for the holiday season.

 

Believe it or not, the best pumpkin pie is available at a great spot on 1st street named Fresa's Chicken Al Carbon.  No, I'm not kidding.

 

First of all, they provide a fantastic menu...but when the holidays surface, the best pumpkin pie in all of Austin is available.

 

Pumpkin pie is a staple at every modern Thanksgiving celebration. But, the pilgrims who sat down to the first Thanksgiving dinner didn’t actually indulge in pumpkin pie. Ovens were not yet available to the settlers, so they instead stewed whole pumpkins, or their hollowed-out shells, and filled them with milk, honey, and spices.

 

A more recognizable pumpkin pie, complete with crust, wasn’t crafted until the late 1700s. According to WhatsCookingAmerica.net, the first American pumpkin pie recipe (originally called “pumpkin pudding”) appeared in Amelia Simmons’ 1796 cookbook, American cookery, by an American orphan.

 

Fresa's provides a really great pie.  I grew up eating the recipe on the Libby’s can of pumpkin puree and this one, of course, blew it out of the water.   I asked for the information/recipe and they told me it contains two cups (16oz), which is more than the small Libby’s can (15oz).   I just figured you could use the canned amount and it would turn out fine.  And although I could make this myself, there's nothing that compares to making a phone call and picking up a few of them.  

 

This is, by far, the BEST pumpkin pie in all of Austin, Texas.  When you need a pumpkin pie for the holidays, this is where you buy it.
